In July 2017, Californias state legislature passed assembly bill (AB) 398 to reauthorize and extend until 2030 the states economy-wide greenhouse gas (GHG) reduction program. The bill sets a new GHG target of at least 40% below the 1990 level of emissions by 2030. As of 2015, about 86% of Californias GHG emissions were related to the consumption of energy.
