New classifications of natural gas storage regions will begin November 19

EIA's Weekly Natural Gas Storage Report (WNGSR) publishes weekly natural gas storage inventories by region. Natural gas storage levels have been high and recently reached a record 3,978 trillion cubic feet as of Friday, November 6. In an effort to better illustrate regional storage trends, EIA will publish weekly data divided into five regions, rather than the current three, beginning with the November 19 report. North Dakota natural gas flaring targets challenged by rapid production growth

Increases in North Dakota's crude oil production have resulted in increased associated natural gas production from oil reservoirs. Because of insufficient infrastructure to collect, gather, and transport this natural gas, about one-fifth of North Dakota's natural gas production is flared rather than marketed. North Dakota's Industrial Commission has established natural gas capture targets in an effort to reduce the amount of flared gas, and they recently issued a revision to the flaring targets in response to gas production growth. A new type of renewable diesel fuel is meeting the growing demand for renewable biofuels, which is driven by biofuel mandates and customer demands for higher quality. Unlike other biofuels, hydroprocessed esters and fatty acids (HEFA) fuels are nearly indistinguishable from their petroleum counterparts. Working natural gas in storage reached 3,929 billion cubic feet (Bcf) as of October 30, according to EIA's latest Weekly Natural Gas Storage Report. This level matches the previous weekly record of 3,929 Bcf set November 2, 2012. Although October marks the traditional end of the injection season, inventory increases commonly continue into the first weeks of November. High distillate fuel oil inventories in Central Atlantic weighing on distillate spot price

Stocks of distillate fuel oil in the Central Atlantic, which encompasses the New York Harbor region, have risen nearly every week since April, reaching 36.9 million barrels as of October 30. This level is 9 million barrels above the five-year average and 14.6 million barrels above the same time last year. Texas expected to keep breaking wind generation records as wind capacity grows

Wind generation on the Texas electric system recently hit several all-time highs. The latest all-time instantaneous peak of 12,238 MW reached on October 22 replaced the short-lived records of 11,467 MW on September 13 and 11,950 MW on October 21, based on data from the grid's operator, the Electric Reliability Council of Texas.
